Let's learn about the incredibly talented women who contributed to science.
You are to investigate and explain the scientific research and achievements of a female scientist in a fun, creative way. Please include information about the person’s childhood, education, and what early experiences influenced or inspired her work. Who were her mentors, her teachers? What was her specific field of research ? Were there any controversies or political situations which hindered or promoted her progress?
Investigate her contributions to advancing scientific knowledge in her chosen field and summarize any prizes and accolades she achieved. Of course, you will need to explain the scientific principles to your classmates. Lastly, state why you choose this person. What is your interest or connection to her life – how has she influenced your view of our natural world?
There are no restrictions on whom you choose. You may go back in time to Hypatia of Alexandria, to Marie Currie to Rachel Carson or Dr. Mary Claire King.
We look forward to hearing your reports about these incredibly talented women.
· Using different modes of research, you will develop a rough “outline” of facts, information, graphics, photos, videos and recordings and ideas that you wish to convey on your glog.
You are required to gather information from at least three (3) different “modes” of research. Books, videos, internet search engines, journals, magazines, etc. are acceptable modes. As always, be careful to record all citations.
You will assemble the textual data in a *.docx or *.doc file for use in creating your glog. and brign both the digital versiona nd the hard copy to class when you meet with Mrs. Siwinski.
The research must contain detailed information on the life of the subject, the work that she has done, the achievements she is noted for and what her contributions to science have been.
All photos or graphics that you plan to use in the construction of your glog must be saved either on a thumb rive or in your server account.
Mrs. Siwinski will meet with the class on FRIDAY, MAY 21, 2010 to instruct the class on the technical aspects of creating a glog.
You will be expected to take the tools that Mrs. Siwinski provides and, using them, develop your own unique virtual poster that demonstrates your knowledge of your subject.
You are to create your own glog about your scientist, using the information that you developed during your research.
Remember to not only make your glog attractive, but informative and effective. While style isn’t everything, the organization of your data will be key in conveying your information to the class.
You will use your glog as a visual aid when you present your scientist to the class.
Through this project you will learn about the incredibly talented women who contributed to science and you will also have hone your technology skills as find and save images, recording your speech using GaragBand and assemble all your materials on your glog.
